typical surrogate is motivated by empathy for
couples struggling with infertility as well as
by financial gain for her family. However, her
desire to help others must be primary.
• Surrogates enjoy being pregnant and recognize
the
importance of their role.
• She may or may not be married.
• Some surrogates are stay at home moms while
some are
working moms.
• All surrogates must be currently raising their
child or
children in their home.
• Surrogates are usually between 21 and 40 years
of age
and have the support of family and
friends in regards to
their decision to be a
gestational surrogate.
• She and her husband/partner must be
emotionally mature
enough to manage their
responsibilities and the
development of a
healthy relationship with the intended
parents.
• Honesty, openness, flexibility and the ability
to manage the
ups and downs of IVF and pregnancy
are critically important
qualities in a
surrogate. |
